User listed in acl - cannot access database

i am stumped with this strange issue. the user cannot access the database, while listed explicitly in the acl, and within two other groups also listed within the acl that she also belongs to.

i began by deleting her cache.dsk, and desktop6.ndk files. then i tried from my machine with her id. then i changed the default access from no access to reader. nothing worked. i removed and added her back to the acl…still no luck. no one else has issues accessing the database and doing what they are allowed to do. she has no issues accessing any other databases that she has been granted accesss to. her client/server version relationship is the same as everyone elses. sounds like deduction leads to a problem with her id, but why no problem with accessing other databases then? there is no encryption involved with this database at all.

any ideas? thanks.

I’ve experienced similar issues in the past (v4 I think) with users not being able to get the access they were supposed to have - it was like the ACL was corrupted somehow.

If nested groups are not the issue, and running fixup doesn’t help (not sure if it does anything with ACL), the only way I resolved the problem was to remove every name from the ACL (except the manager, of course), save it, and then re-add everyone again.

It’s a last resort but perhaps worth a try if all else fails - don’t forget to make a note of everyone’s access level, options, user type and roles before you start modifying the ACL.

Subject: user listed in acl - cannot access database

I have seen rare cases of this. In my experience I used the admin console to seach for all instances of the user. What I found was that the user was listed in a group that was nested within another group and sometimes in several groups within groups. When this happens repeatedly, seems the ACL resolution abilities get a little confused. Usually when someone is in multple groups and or listed separately, the highest access wins out. But if Notes gets confused, sometimes it may deny access completely.

I know this is not a solution, but just wanted to share my experience.
