Use of [entries] in the template ACL and creating .nsf from .ntf

At our workplace the standard methodology is to have ACL entries enclosed in brackets, e.g. . I was also told that when .nsf’s are made from a Template the brackets, , would disappear leaving the group name in the ACL.

I watched out Administrator put the template up on the server, sign it using the Admin Client, then open the db and select File, Database, New Copy and renamed the .ntf to .nsf.

Next, he then opened the db (.nsf) and had to manually remove the brackets from the ACL entries.

Should brackets be used or not? Did the Administrator do something incorrect in making the .nsf from the .ntf

Also the Template name (on tab 4) in the .ntf didn’t transfer to the inherit from template box on tab 4 in the .nsf. Any ideas?

Your admin did a bad thing. The bracketted entries are for use when one does File->Database->New and selects the NTF as a template. Any “normal” ACL entries will disappear, and bracketted entries will be added to the new database’s ACL.

Thanks Stan. I just sat with the Notes Admin and did as you suggested and it work. We were doing it the other way because our old Notes Admin said that’s the way to do it (she’s no longer here). I always felt she was doing something wrong.
