I’ve been trying to find out if systems outside the US and Canada need to update their OS. In short, what I’ve found is this:
Notes/Domino systems that do not use a North American time zone affected by the new DST rules for 2007 must have their operating system updated with the new DST rules if either of the following are true:
A user schedules Calendaring and Scheduling entries, Resource Reservation entries, or Notes Date/Time entries using an affected time zone.
Resource reservations - not applicable in our case.
What I’m confused about is, does the above mean that if one of my users schedules a meeting with someone in North America, they need to have the OS updated OR does it mean that if they have their own calendar prefs time zone (or secondary time zone) set to an affected time zone, they need to make the OS update?
For Notes/Domino systems outside the US and Canada:
Notes/Domino systems that do not use a North American time zone affected by the new DST rules for 2007 must have their operating system updated with the new DST rules if either of the following are true:
A user schedules Calendaring and Scheduling entries, Resource Reservation entries, or Notes Date/Time entries using an affected time zone.
A user has set their User Preferences to display a secondary time zone in the Calendaring views, where the time zone specified is an affected time zone.
In addition any Calendaring and Scheduling, or Resource Reservation entries chaired by someone who has scheduled using an affected time zone must update that meeting as described in the following sections.
For example, you are in the Eastern time zone and you schedule a meeting today that will occur with a Parisian on Monday, March 19th. In 2006 this date was not in Daylight Time, but in 2007 it is. You want the meeting to occur at 10 am Eastern. When you schedule this meeting before the OS patch is in place, the OS and therefore Notes, knows Paris will be 6 hours ahead so 10 AM here is 4 PM in Paris. However, after you apply the patch, on March 19th Paris will be 5 hours ahead instead of 6 hours. So if you still want the meeting to occur at 10 AM Eastern, the Parisian must now attend at 3 PM. Running the agent will change the meeting values so it is 10 AM after accounting for Daylight Time, and subsequently send out a reschedule notice.
The reverse case is not true. If the Parisian schedules a meeting for 4 PM, the meeting will appear in the correct time in your calendar only after you apply the OS patch. So before the DST shift, the meeting would have been at 10 AM, but with the application of the OS patch the meeting will now be at 11 AM. This is working as designed as the chair is in Paris and the meeting is still at the time they scheduled it, and it is your time that has shifted with the new DST rules. It is this scenario, where the chair is in an unaffected time zone, that a meeting could end up overlapping and you may want to reschedule one of the meetings.
