Urgent Newbie question on how to refresh documents in an embedded view

I have created a db for Notes client usage only.

  1. When db is launched, it opens a frameset.

  2. In this frameset, a page is loaded into one of the frames.

  3. In this page, an embedded view is loaded

  4. In this embedded view, there is a button to create a new doc using an existing form

Using this button, a new document is created and saved. This new doc once saved, should appear in the embedded view (3). Also once saved and closed, user is returned to the frameset(2).

I cannot for the life of me, get the new doc to appear automatically in the embedded view in this case. Pressing F9 does help, but this is not an option here.

My users could be trying to create new documents concurrently, and without refreshing happening automatically, they might end up creating duplicate documents unwittingly - which is the main problem I am facing now.

Anyone has any suggestions on how to resolve this? I have:

a) checked the form (4) and made sure that refresh is set to auto

b) have updater=2 set on the domino server

Off topic slightly, but important to what you’re trying to do:

Why is the view embedded in a page? Why not just show the view in the frame? The automatically refresh fields on the form has nothing to do with what you are looking at doing. Turn it off if you don’t need it for it’s purpose. What you probably want to do is, in your frameset, instead of having a page in the frame with an embedded view, just display the view. In your nav frame, instead of creating links to the pages, create links to the views.

I have some additional static text to display besides the view itself, ie the header and footer. Hence I am using a page instead of calling the view directly.

Any suggestion on how I can call a view directly, but still display some other static text in that view such that it behaves like what I wanted originally, ie with header and footer?

Presuming that you are building the application into a Frameset in Notes, simply sandwich the view’s frame inbetween the frames that contain the pages with your static text. All of your links will have the view frame for their target (or if you need to change the page, then the appropriate frame would be the target). This, of course, works best with no frame border, or perhaps a thin border that is not 3D, to simulate a table cell.

Hi,

You need to make sure that your view property (on the i tab) is set to ‘On Refresh’ , ‘Refresh Display’

That should do the trick.

I have already set the option “On Refresh” to “Refresh Display”. I indicated wrongly in my original posting that I set the refresh for a Form. What I actually meant was set the refresh for that embedded view.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the responses guys.

I have managed to solve my “duplicate” documents issue. Turns out when I was using @Dblookup and @Dbcolumn, I was not using the “NoCache” option. Once I put this in, the duplicate document problems ceased.

As for the header and footer issue, yes eventually I used additional frames above and below the view to solve this problem.

Thanks all for the suggestions
