Hi All, Can anyone help me with this urgent matter. My ict manager tried to make a replica of his 800 MB big mailfile to a local drive. After the replication jobs was completed all mails are in the local replica but all the mail was deleted from his original mail file. Not only in the inbox but all folders to. When i try to replicate back from the local copy to the server no document is being sent. What is happened here and how can i solve this?
You need more info before you attempt to fix this. First of all, check the doc count (db properties) of the server replica. If it matches the local rep then docs are there but not showing for some reason (not such a big deal). Next check the user activity (also db properties). If the docs have actually been deleted from the database then you would see 1000’s of writes to the database by Mr ICT or another server. Next, check the rep history to see all the different reps that have replicated with the server rep. From what you say there should only be one other db rep on local. But it sounds to me like you actually have two other reps. Check for an old dodgy rep lying about on local or on the server. Concentrate on eliminating the source of the problem first then you can rebuild the server rep as follows…
(1) Delete the empty server db and recreate - ok if the doc count is 0 anyway.
(2) Purge deletion stubs (can take a while (hour glass)) from each replica and then force another replication to synchonise all the docs accross both dbs.
If you try either fix without figuring out what happend then there’s a good chance the whole thing will just happen again.
Subject: RE: Urgent : Mails deleted after replication
Hi, Thx for you response. I did some checkings and i found out that the documents actually are deleted from the original server database. I did not found any other replicas local or on the server. I checked the replica and the option to remove documents was not checked en the option to only receive documents from server was checked. How could it be possible that the replication job deleted all the mail from the server DB?
You could also check to see if mr ICT entered a replication formula when he replicated, or if there was already a replication formula on the server replica. If so, delete it and replicate again.
