Upgrading to 8.5 questions

We are currently using Domino 8.0.2 servers and are hoping to move up to 8.5.1 over the Christmas period.

Currently our clients are a bit of a mixed bag where we have 700 or so users who have Notes 6.5 and are on Citrix. I’d like to bump them to 8.5.1 clients as well, however we are worried about the load on those servers.

The rest of our users are on a laptop or a desktop and have either 6.5, 8.0.1 and a couple of 8.5.

My questions are, how much extra load should we be expecting that Notes would need? I’m hoping to have somebody give me a citrix server that I can fill with test users to see how it handles the same number of users we do now, but I don’t know if this will be possible or not.

Any tips, suggestions or resources with information will be greatly appreciated. We are going to have a sit down with some more experienced external people but I’d like to read up and know some things before hand.

Hi Steve

We have a Whitepaper that goes through the scalability of the Notes 8.5 Client on XenApp 4.5 published here → IBM Developer

This should help you assess how many users of 8.5 you can achieve with the HW you have. We are in the process of updating this paper to reflect 8.5.1 clients but in terms of numbers for 8.5.1 they are the same for Standard Client and have improved for Basic client.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Gary.
