I have Notes client 8.0 and decided to upgrade to 8.5. I did not pay attention to the install path, and 8.5 installed to a new path directory C:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes. 8.0 has an install path of c:\notes.
I lost all my desktop icons and settings. I’ve been told I can uninstall 8.5 and reinstall it and point to my old directory of c:\notes. Doing so should restore my desktop icons and settings that I had. Can anyone confirm that?

Yes - the best solution is for you to uninstall 8.5, then reinstall 8.5 and make sure you set the path to point to your 8.0 install location.
Normally, the install should have located your 8.0 install automatically and set those fields accordingly - it is not clear why it didn’t recognize your 8.0 install - is it possible that you had copied/moved the binaries since you had instaleld them or modified your windows registry settings?
