Hi All
we are upgrading from Domino 6.5.4 on RedHat Linux 3 to Domino 8.0.1 on AIX 5.3 ( on a newer machine ) so I have configured the new server with the server.id. cert.id, etc., from the old one and it’s now identical to the old one for testing purposes before we make the move( the old one is the Live server for now ) and I gave the test server an IP address in a different subnet & with the help of a router ACL we prevented the test server from communicating with the Live server & it’s Cluster ( As well Workflow servers, external Domino server on the DMZ, and Blackberry server )
So right now I’m testing the 8.0.1 & I wanted to test various functionalities so I made a check list containing the following to be tested :
1- Internal Mail Routing
2- Archiving Policy
3- The ability of users to open their Mail file and old ( Local ) archive.
4-Upgrade the mail template to Mail R8 and test the previous point agian
5- Encrypted e-mails
6- Test the resources reservation database.
7- Test the workflow system ( in a workflow test environment )
8- Test Locally Encrypted databases
So am I missing something that I should add to the check list?
Thanks

Domino 8 is not a server release so you should have a look at performance issues with the client. ie Memory used on your companies standard desktop. 2Meg memory per machine (windows) is a safe bet. Other wise you may have allot of complaints from end users saying that Lotus Notes is slow and everyone blaming the Domino upgrade rather than the clients machine not being upgraded.
APPLICATION - these are a huge part of any migration to a new version. Make sure your code works on the new server. This is a must as your users will not be happy if the application they need to do their job does not work the day after the server is upgraded. This is because code changes with each new version. Some code removed and replaced with others etc.
Domino 8 Advantages - you should also be looking at how Domino 8 can help you. Streaming replication, Domino Domain Montioring, large encryption keysetc etc should all be tested before you go live with the upgrade. This is so you dont have to play with the live servers after the upgrade.
Look at Samtime??? it will help cut down emails going around.
There are some ideas and I hope they help.
