I am going to upgrade our one 6.5 server to 8.5 and have a few questions.
Will Domino 8.5 work on Windows 2003 Small Business Server? I couldn’t tell from IBM’s site if it would. They mention Windows 2003 but not the Small Business Server explicitly.
Anything else I need to consider? It’s been a long time since I’ve done an upgrade. Will everything as far as my smtp settings, etc, come over properly?
Or should I just leave the server at 6.5 and upgrade the client side? I’m already running the client on my computer with no problems.
Thanks everybody!!

If you just upgrade the client you won’t have all the benefits the NEW client would offer. One being “Message Recall”. Other things that are new but maybe not client specific are DAOS, the OoO get’s split off into it’s own Server TASK, Synchronizing Personal address books, Data compression of the NSF file etc.
Just thinking out load but I would first test an upgrade on a TEST box which contains an imagine of one of your machines. If things checked out then.
- upgrade Hub/Adminp server (I don’t know if you are set up this way) and let the NAB replicate out.
steady state
- upgrade mail servers but don’t update the mailboxes to the latest ODS.
steady state
3)Update the mailboxes
steady state
- upgrade your scratch or sandbox development server and have the Developers check the code that brakes. Once you have some type of acceptance then…
5)upgrade your Application server.
Now that is a high level and it won’t catch all the issue you may experience in your organization. I hope that helps!
