Upgraded to Domino 8.5 and ODS 51 now some people can't open their mail databases

HiI upgraded the administration server in a Domino environement to 8.5 (others running 8.0.2) and all looked fine last night after the upgrade. I did fixup and compact -C via command prompt on administrative databases while the server was down, and ran a Compact -C on maildatabases after the server was started. No errors last night.

But this morning som users cannot open their mailfiles they get the error : “Formula error”.

Looking in the server console it says : “Error updating view #366 in mail\xxx.nsf. Formula Error.” I have between 3 and 20 errors for each failing mail database. But half the databases have no errors. All databases use the same template.

I found it to be folders failing. Inbox, Group calendars, and some users folders. I could not purge these views/folders. Using “Load convert -u” did no change, also fixup and compact failed with same error : “formula eror”.

Users are Notes 7 so I created a new default DWA702 from scratch and did a “Load convert -u mail\user.nsf * dwa702.ntf”. A few folders were OK, most not.

Deleting the Group Calendar folder created a new folder, and then this folder was OK.

But the inbox keeps bugging me. Nothing I do will fix it. It is now the only failing folder in the first database now, but this makes users unable to open the database. I would rather not delete the inbox, since all mails in inbox will then only appear in All documents (users hate that).

Any help much appreciated.

I’ve seen that error message before and the culprit in our case was the Attention Indicators.

Somehow, the formula generated by the email addresses and the colors was wrong and the user got that message every time he tried to open the Inbox.

Check if these users have defined special colors for certain email addresses.

Subject: You nailed it! thank you

By adding a mailbox to workspace, right clicking and hitting Ctrl´+ Shift View I could go directly to the Sent folder, change the attention indicators and save preferences. Then views reindexed and all worked again.

But it looks like a bug…

Also:“updall -R -C” and “convert -u”, if you have a “mail setting” with “attentions indicator” disable it. Then, “tell adminp process mail policy”

Subject: The cause of the problem is in the mail policy settings document

I got this problem when I told my mail policy document to “Set Value Whenever Modified” for the items under recipient indicators.

It appears that the value for “Maximum number of recipients for half circle display” defaults to and is set to 2 even if you do not activate or set any of the supporting values.

Activating the values, and telling adminp to process mail policies allowed some limited success, but ultimately you have to get into the affected mail files (to the sent view works best), and reset the Attention Indicators.

I would call this a bug for sure.

Moving forward we are not using the mail settings document to push attention indicators till we find out differently.
