Upgraded to 8.5.1 now not working

Hi Guys,Just upgraded my 8.5 notes/admin/designer client install to 8.5.1 and now i can’t get notes to run.

Admin works fine, but both designer and notes.exe don’t display anything after the loading splash page disappears.

Any ideas?

Subject: Standard Client?

Similar problems here, I assume you’re running the “Standard” Eclipse based client?

The admin client doesn’t use Eclipse yet so isn’t bogged down by the bugs surrounding it. Running Notes with the /basic switch will load Notes in the basic format too, does it work then?

Sadly there is no basic designer client so you’re forced to run standard configuration and Eclipse. When it’s broken, it’s broken and I don’t know of a solution yet - my main laptop has the exact same issue and I’m having to do half my work on a temporary workstation right now.

I suggest you raise a PMR with IBM about the problem.

Received the following messages and in the end had to uninstall and reinstall. Sorry, did not keep the workspace and it’s logs when uninstalled/reinstalled.

My message references swt.xulrunner as missing. Clicked OK and install process continued, got one more message and clicked OK. Install finished but now the client and designer will not start - only admin starts. This was an install over an existing client / designer / admin installation. I have also opened a PMR and sent in all of the log files.l

Subject: Update - Got it to work

Got it to work by deleting the framework and workspace directories and then reinstalling.

This solved temporarily this issue yesterday. This morning I installed the full client again on a clean environment and now it works OK.

I tried the deleting the workspace trick but it failed in my case.

Subject: 100% CPU Usage

In my case, when I attempted an upgrade (8.5 Standard to 8.5.1 Standard) I received an error: “file not found: c:\Lotus\Notes\framework.provisioning_rc Providioning process failed to launch or was stopped before status could be determined.”

I’m on WinXP Pro Version 2002 SP3.

I uninstalled everything (kept my data directory) and did a new install. Success.

When I launched Notes I thought it was hung, but after 20 minutes of my machine running at 100% CPU and the notes2.exe program utilizing that 100%, Notes popped up and seems to be working.

This morning, after a clean start, similar issues. It took 20 minutes to start Notes and the notes2.exe program had 100% of the CPU. I can drink a lot of coffee in 20 minutes.

Subject: Re-install Fixed it

The first time I attempted an uninstall/reinstall, I neglected to remove the ‘workspace’ directory that is in the data directory.

Last night I did an uninstall, made sure all directories, other than my data directory were deleted, and also deleted the ‘workspace’ directory. This time, after the install my Notes client launches in about 2 minutes (much better than than the 24 minutes it was taking).

reminder…I’m a developer/admin, with over 100 Location docs and IDs and things. My client takes some abuse. I wouldn’t expect an upgrade to my software to go very well. The trick for me was when I uninstall to do a clean install, to remember to wipe out the ‘Workspace’ directory.
