we upgraded a Win2000 server from R5 to R6 and are having issues with it crashing at least once a day. There is no pattern to when it crashes, different times of the day/nite. We have UNinstalled McAfee entirely and still crashes. Next to uninstall will be RightFax but Im wondering if anyone out there is using RightFax on Domino 6?

We had the same problem with Trend’s ScanMail for LN. Until they built in support for R6 we were unable to keep a Win2000 server running.
Ours was dying when ScanMail was trying to do some MIME conversions with the SMTP server.
Are you sure you completely/correctly uninstalled MCaffee? Just a thought.

Yes, I think by now we have determined the culprit to be RightFax… which does not yet have a version that supports Domino 6 (straight from the horse’s mouth at Captaris) and may NOT before August, altho most are hoping it’s sooner.

There is not enough information here to determine what the problem might be. Describe the crash - any boxes? any message on the console? etc.
But here’s soemthing that caused a recent crash for one of my clients:
There was a file-level virus scanner running against the Domino data directory and in the scan settings there was an attachment size limit - strange but true. A user received an attachment that was just over the threshhold and the server stappoed responding/crashed with no Domino-level hints. There were some event log entries in the NT event log that pointed me in the right direction. We excluded the data directory, as they were using ScanMail for Notes anyway, so the file system level scan was redundant anyway.

Certainly worth a Look-see… our alternative is reverting back to R5 until all the 3rd partt’s catch up.
We also determined that Arcserv has NOT RUN properly since the upgrade…

I’m responding only about Rightfax…We are running v8.5. Our Rightfax software is installed on a dedicated server that does not run Domino. It only has a Notes client installed. I have left the client software at version 5.0.11.
When we wanted to upgrade our servers to ND6, we called Captaris and the summary of our call was basically that ND6 was not supported and was not tested.
So, I aasked them how I would move the rightfax files off the server to another server. I did this way back when they didn’t support Release 5. I kept a server on 4.6 for serveral months until they caught up. But with v8.5 I was able to successfully install the software on a server not running Domino and it’s working for us.
Just in case we had to setup a temporary R5 server, this is how Captaris told us to move the databases…
Steps to take.

Stop RightFax.

Notes.INI file > Change RF_NotesServer=SERVERNAME/Domain to reflect the new server name.

Notes.INI file > Change RF_SyncDataBase=RightFax\RF80SYNC.NSF to reflect the directory that the database is in.

Now you need to recreate the docs.
4a) Go into EFM SyncDataBase, go down to “Fax Servers”, delete the one document in there
4b)now go down to “GateWays” and delete the one document in there. Copy the rightfax database to the new server.
- Start RightFax. RightFax will recreate the 2 documents and everything should now be running.

I hope this helps someone out there if they have problems with Rightfax after upgrading to 6.
I upgraded to 6.0.1 this weekend and had no problems with Rightfax at all. INcoming and OUTgoing faxes are working fine.

Thanks, I was thinking of setting up a box running a Domino version of R5 just to keep RightFax on, just didn’t know if we had the extra box around. Now I think it’s an even better idea since it worked for you before.

We had several Server crashes caused when an Internet Message with a JPG attachment was opened.This was with Inotes template and 6.0 server; The server auto restart came in handy.

these crashes are sporadic, and with NO Domino level messages for clues. it just stops running, not even a Panic message!
