Upgrade to Domino 6.5.3

Hello,

I have to make my first domino Update on tuesday, my client has a Domino 6.5.1 and i have to upgrade its domino server to a 6.5.3.

I have the cd of the 6.5.3 version, but i don’t know how to make this upgrade.

can you tell me how to make this ?

There is any file to backup before the installation ?

And could you give me the procédure to make it easily ?

Hi,

I understand this is your first time with domino.

You should have some experience to do this in a production system. Try to make some tests in a lab before.

In a matter of fact, it’s very simple, but if you have no experience problems can come immediately or later and you will have no idea what to do to fix them.

The most important files are notes.ini and names.nsf. Keep a backup of them. But don’t forget DATA files from your client are the most important!!!

Really think about to install a few times in a lab.

Only say yes to the names.nsf design upgrade if you have not modified the names.nsf design template.

I agree with Doug! Do not upgrade to 6.5.3 and wait until 6.5.4. Whatever problems you are solving by upgrading to 6.5.3 will be overshadowed by the problems you will have with 6.5.3 (we are waiting for our seventh hot fix to keep our servers from crashing) If you do decide to upgrade, be sure to download and install the 6.5.3 Fix Pack 1.

With that said, to upgrade:

  1. make sure you have a good complete backup of all files

  2. run the 6.5.3 server install package and install to the same locations that 6.5.1 program files and data files are currently installed (which will overwrite the previous installation)

  3. run the install for 6.5.3 Fix Pack 1

  4. reboot the operating system

That’s it! If I remember correctly, when you next start Domino it will ask to upgrade the design of the Directory. Answer Y. :slight_smile:

You should wait until 6.5.4. It should be released in a couple weeks. (Many bugs in 6.5.3)

Subject: Try to wait for 6.5.4

6.5.4 will (supposedly) fix a lot of server stability problems. I would strongly recommend waiting to upgrade your server to that if at all possible.
