Upgrade Path

Hi Guys,

any advice on best upgrade path for 2 mail servers from Lotus Domino 6.5.4 FP2 to Lotus Domino 6.5.6 FP3.

The 2 servers are build on a Microsoft Cluster and with Spanish lang pack.

I have come up with 2 choices:

  1. Upgrade using incremental installers: Lotus Domino 6.5.4 FP2 - Lotus Domino 6.5.5 - Lotus Domino 6.5.6 - Lotus Domino 6.5.6 FP3, this way I have no need to reinstall the lang pack and as they are windows boxes I do not have to uninstall any hotfixes beforehand.

  2. Install Domino 6.5.6 FP3 directly with a full release (via Passport Advantage) and then install the lang. pack.

can anyone suggest a better option or any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks again

From the faq list of 6.5.5, but I guess it may help.

Server Fix Packs are language independent. Fix Packs and Language Packs may be installed in any order on most Domino platforms. Possible sequences includes these:

* Base product installation - The base product, for example Domino 6.5.5, is installed first, either a new install or an upgrade.

* Language Pack installation - One or more Language Packs may be installed, over the base installation.

* Fix Pack installation - Fix Packs may be installed initially, or as they become available.

* Language Pack installation - Additional Language Packs may be installed, or the default server language replaced.

Why another 6.5.x upgrade? Do you have a particular issue to resolve? The 6.5.x code will no longer be supported after 30th April 2009, so if you are putting in significant effort for this upgrade, it may be worth looking at moving to 7 or even 8 if you are brave,

Subject: RE: Upgrade Path

I would like nothing more than to upgrade to 7 and straight onto 8, but the customer does not want to pay for such a service and to top it off they are only willing to install 6.5.6FP3 because one of the servers is crashing and IBM have suggested installing the latest and final FP for Domino 6.

I hope on the 1st of May their server dies and see what management think then about the few dollars that they saved themselves be not upgrading to R7!!

thanks for replies
