Upgrade issue for 8.5.1

Hello,

yesterday we tried to upgrade our Lotus Domino Server rel. 8.5.0FP1 with the last version 8.5.1 multilingual Lotus Domino for Windows 64bit.

The installation run without errors but on the new start of the Domino server task we got for nearly all databases following error:

22.10.2009 18:21:39 RnRMgr: Error encountered while scanning database mail\database.nsf for events: Cannot store document - database has too many unique field names. Please set the ‘Allow more fields in database’ option or ask your administrator to compact the database.

and following:

22.10.2009 18:22:15 AMgr: Unable to open ‘mail\database.nsf’. Skipping database: Cannot store document - database has too many unique field names. Please set the ‘Allow more fields in database’ option or ask your administrator to compact the database.

We tried to compact the databases (without full text index as mentioned in a known IBM technote)

and we got following error:

22.10.2009 18:28:27 Error compacting mail\database.nsf: Cannot store document - database has too many unique field names. Please set the ‘Allow more fields in database’ option or ask your administrator to compact the database.

Also the mail routing was not possible. The router task run with the same error.

We tried also the do a new replica and then a new copy of a “damaged” mail database (only one as test). The database could de opened for a while but after a restart of the domino task this new database (like the most others) was again damaged.

So we decided to downgrade the server to 8.5.0FP1 back to check for database consistency

and we were wery surprised, that after the first restart of the old domino version all databases were consistent !?!?!

Temporary we decide to leave the old version on the server as long we can’t understand the cause of this error.

Everything works fine and we got no more the above mentioned errors.

The ODS structur number is still 43 but we tried also to upgrade it to 48 without success.

The property “Allow more fields in database” is already set for ALL databases on the server

Domino runs on a HP Blade Server with a HP SAN

on WIndows 2003 R2 64bit.

Any ideas about how we could solve the problem ?

Thanks in advance

Corrado

Subject: Workaround by using source tab …

Thanks for the forward. Using the source tab to make any changes will work for know. A quick look at the source tab shows that the ‘Events’ Eclipse View in 8.5.1 is generating different code than the Events view from 8.5

Subject: Steps for diagnosis/resolution

This is without precedent, though through investigation we may find its relation to (an)other issue(s)

  1. Please open a PMR for this problem

  2. Send a pre-migration and post-migration copy of a database exhibiting the issue

Thanks,

John

Subject: Any Update?

Any update on this issue?

We upgraded from 7.0.3FP1 to 8.5.1 this morning and I am seeing this for nearly all databases on the server we upgraded (we upgraded one member of a two-server cluster).

I can open all databases fine on the other member (7.0.3FP1), but not the replica on the server running 8.5.1.

I was able to resolve by recreating ALL replicas from the 7 box to the 8 box, but there are some templates installed on the 8 box which do not exist on the 7 box and I have no way of recreating.

Will applying 8.5.1FP3 correct this?

Should I bring the other member to 8.5.1, or will that make matters worse?

Thanks,

  • Shane

Subject: Similar Problem on Domino 8.5.2

I have migrated some users to a Domino 8.5.2 server. One user fails to get his mail delivered and the server logs this error…

“Cannot store document - database has too many unique field names. Please set the ‘Allow more fields in database’ option or ask your administrator to compact the database.”

The client ODS version is 43.

A design replace with Mail 8.5 also fails with a similar error.

On closing the error dialog the notes client crashed.
