My company are currently looking at upgrading from 5.0.11 to 6.5
We have multiple Windows and AS400 servers and although the windows upgrade process should be easy enough we are unsure as to the steps required to upgrade the AS400 environment.
Has anyone had to upgrade an AS400 server from version 5 to version 6? If so, could you please give me an idea as to the steps we need to follow and any pitfalls we should be looking out for
I can’t give you the steps or any pitfalls but I can recommend reading the Redbooks very carefully. We upgraded the AS/400 from 5.0.7 to 6.5 and did not have any major glitches. We read through the Redbooks and found them to be informative; providing step by step instructions. The server installation was extremely smooth; no problems.
Anita is right. I did a few uogrades from 5.x to 6.x, including 6.5.
I didn’t read any redbook, because I have a few years experience with domino, including AS400. There is no problem in the upgrade, but I always backup the server, and copy all the templates to a new directory, where I can roll back one template if there is any problem. If you know AS400, just pay attention the LICENSED PROGRAM number is different from release 5 to release 6, adn the number of options now are only 2, and not 6 as before.
Again, no problems, but a full backup can help you in the case of any problem.
Check all your PTF levels. When I upgraded (or tried to) I was stuck on the phone with IMB for hours tracking down a java PTF that wasn’t applied. After I got that fixed, everything went pretty smoothly.
