I planning to upgrade my server & I’m using the upgrade to lotus notes & domino6 Redbook for a guide. The manual gives an upgrade sequence, were you should upgrade the domino directory before the administration server. It then gives an option to upgrade the server & directory at the same time but gives very vague instructions. In ch. 6 it then gives instructions on the domino server upgrade but does not mention how to upgrade the directory.

What is the best way to do this, upgrade the directory first & then start the server upgrade

Did you look in the Administrators Help guide, good instructions on upgrading the Directory in there as well…

In chapter 6 it recommends manually upgrading the directory (and admin4) from an OS command prompt using ndesign (p. 104) before starting the server.
I’ve never had problems when starting the server and choosing the option to upgrade the directory when it prompts you to do so (as on p. 112), but listening to the redbook instead of doing what I do is as least as good if not better.
