I have converted my old R5 mail file to iNotes60, but the Inbox and my folders all retain the R5 design.
I have tried:
load convert -u mail\mailfile.nsf * inotes60.ntf
load convert mail\mailfile.nsf * inotes60.ntf
load convert -u mail\mailfile.nsf * mail6.ntf
load convert mail\mailfile.nsf * mail6.ntf
I have also run “Upgrade Folder Design” from the Actions menu multiple times, choosing both the manual and automatic options. It never gives any error, takes a while to run, and then returns me to my non-upgraded mail file.
Anyone have any experience with problematic mail files? Ideas of things to try?

Subject: Upgrade Folder Design not working
Look in the design of your mail database and check to see if the ($inbox) and your personal folders have “Prohibit design refresh or replace to modify” checked.
You can do this by right-clicking the design element and selecting the third (design) tab.
Also, you may want to clear out the “Inherit from design template” as well.

They do have the prohibit modification checkbox checked - as I understand it, that should remain checked to prevent my folders from being deleted during a design refresh. Correct?
Reading through the posts of other people converting their mail files to R6 templates, it sounds like the “Upgrade Folder Design” action is working even with the prohibit modification checkbox checked.
Anyway, just to try, I unchecked it on a couple folders, ran the upgrade, and they did not get updated.
None of the folders have a value in the “Inherit from design template” field.

What view or folder design are you basing the folder upgrade on? Inbox? If you are basing the folder update on the Inbox make sure the Inbox is getting updated from the design refresh. The inbox folder should not have the prohibit design refresh checked unless you are trying retain some modifications.
But if that is the case, your update wont work based on the inbox.
If that does not work. Try making a new folder and moving all the documents in your inbox to it. Then remove your inbox folder. Run the design refresh again to put back the inbox. Then you can move back your e-mail from the folder you created earlier. Then try the ‘Upgrade Folder Design’ action again with Manual refresh. Select the inbox as the design to use.

Thanks for the help - indeed, my Inbox had prohibit design refresh checked. I unchecked it, ran “load convert -u” and it got updated. Then I ran “Upgrade Folder Design” and now my other folders are updated as well. I’m not sure why my Inbox had prohibit design refresh checked in the first place.
