I have Lotus 8.0.2 installed in my organisation. Whilst we are still working around with using the real power of lotus (rather than using for simple email), I was told by the IBM reps that an upgrade to 8.5.1 is going to be available, which is much better and easier on the server, and hence upgrading to 8.5 can wait. Does any one have a clue ?
Subject: Pretty doubtful
You will be able to ‘upgrade’, but that would mean installing 8.5 (or 8.5.1, which ships next month) on top of 8.0.x or 7.x. When we went from 6.0 to 6.5, there was no incremental installer for that, so I don’t anticipate one for this update either.
Subject: Maybe
I usually only recommend upgrading if you absolutely need a feature in the new version or you are going out of support.
8.5 has some very useful features that I think you might like. But keep in mind, for example, that one of them (DAOS) needs Transactional Logging and that could bring you problems for backups. And I mean that your backup solutions should support it.
Other thing is the Vault, which simplifies Id management.
Oh and Traveler. But if you are using Sametime in the same server, you need yo wait, since Sametime is not supported in 8.5 and the version will come later this year.
Cheers
