A Lotus Notes (8.5basic) user has been successfully upgraded to a roaming user. The next time this user tries to start a full client the following dialog box is shown:
When ‘Convert to roaming now’ is selected, and ok is clicked, the notes client crashes, and sometimes nsd is left running (forever). The next time notes is started the following dialog box is presented:
Subject: Can you give more details?
How was the user upgraded to roaming? Via the roaming upgrade tool? Or via a policy? Is this Domino roaming or file server roaming? We have fixed a number of roaming upgrade issues and I am trying to determine if this one that we have already addressed or if it is a new one. Thanks for any info!
Subject: Roaming User
Here’s how I got to the roaming user:
-
Installed a basic version of 8.5 Beta.
-
Ran Nomad to install on a USB memory stick.
-
Set up the new user on the clean install on the usb and everything seem to be working fine.
-
From the domino administrator, upgraded the user to roaming.
-
Minutes later the user running on the USB had a message to accept roaming upgrade, which the user accepted.
-
Verified that the user was roaming correctly.
-
Verified that user is still roaming correctly (just did that again today). On the replicator page there are some new rows: Roaming User Applications with indented address book, bookmarks, roaming data and feeds.
-
The same user cannot access any other lotus notes client either basic or standard, as he gets the messages shown in the first posting.
So at this time the user can access the Lotus Notes client from his USB installation with roaming, and for any other client he must select do not upgrade to roaming otherwise Notes crashes.

Did you get an NSD at all? If so can you attach it here along with your notes.ini from the upgraded machine and from the machine that fails? How did you upgrade with a policy or using the admin tool? Does your person doc in the public NAB say you are roaming?

No NSD was created. There was a task visible in the Task Manager showing nsd using 3k of memory. I let it run overnight and an NSD was not created anywhere. It never terminated by itself.
Upgraded from the admin tool.
- Yes, and the client does roam properly - eg bookmarks are updated on the server.
