Hi all, I just finished adding a second server on our domain yesterday and have been noticing some wierd replication activity on the server log of the 2nd server. The following 6 lines show up every 15 minutes and I can’t figure out why:
07/27/2005 06:30:38 AM LOG_REPLICATION changed to 0.
07/27/2005 06:30:39 AM Starting replication with server xyz/Company
07/27/2005 06:30:40 AM Finished replication with server xyz/Company
07/27/2005 06:30:45 AM LOG_REPLICATION changed to 0.
07/27/2005 06:30:47 AM Starting replication with server xyz/Company
07/27/2005 06:30:48 AM Finished replication with server xyz/Company
I don’t have any connection or location documents locally on either of the two servers that have replication enabled. Nor do I have any Replication Connection document in the Server Configuration.
What am I missing?

The message “LOG_REPLICATION changed to 0”
looks to me like it is being set by a configuration document.
Do you have a configuration document that says
L_REPLICATION=0
?
Is it possible that you have a connection document that is not showing up in the connection documents view for some reason?

I suspect this has to do with the installation of the 2nd server. During the installation process, a replica of the Domino Directory is copied from the Registration server, this I know for sure. What I don’t know is that if there’s some other setting that’s done during the install of the 2nd server which enables this replication every 15 minutes with the Registration server. I uninstalled and clean reinstalled the 2nd server and sure enough the same replication activity came up in the log file and the server console.
I checked the help files on Log_Replication and it’s a setting in the notes.ini file, the value of zero (0) indicated not to log any events. I’ve changed this to 4 which should log everything. Lets see what I get in the next 15 minutes.
Funny thing is that assuming it’s the Domino Directory which is being replicated every 15 minutes, I don’t see anything within the Replication History of the names.nsf file. Besides, in the Replication settings of names.nsf, the schedule is enabled but is greyed out so I can’t see what’s the schedule either.
The other oddity is when I checked the log.nsf file, I don’t see anything under replication events. However, under miscellaneous events, I can see the same message as:
07/27/2005 06:30:38 AM LOG_REPLICATION changed to 0.
07/27/2005 06:30:39 AM Starting replication with server xyz/Company
07/27/2005 06:30:40 AM Finished replication with server xyz/Company
Really wierd…
My question to others that have experienced setting the 2nd server - does this 15 minute replication always happen?

Well…changing the Log_Replication value to 4 in notes.ini didn’t help. It still chose to go with value 0, so obviously it’s doing the replication without the help of the notes.ini file. My console spat out the same familiar lines:
07/27/2005 06:30:38 AM LOG_REPLICATION changed to 0.
07/27/2005 06:30:39 AM Starting replication with server xyz/Company
07/27/2005 06:30:40 AM Finished replication with server xyz/Company
Subject: Same replication prob. here!
I get:
08/03/2005 10:02:06 PM Starting replication with server Server03/Company/US
08/03/2005 10:02:06 PM Finished replication with server Server03/Company/US
08/03/2005 10:02:08 PM Starting replication with server Server03/Company/US
08/03/2005 10:02:09 PM Finished replication with server Server03/Company/US
Every fifteen minutes, same as you. Notice I get two of these.
I have no idea what’s causing this. There is a connection document, but replication is definitely disabled. I deleted the Admin4.nsf file on the Admin Server and created a new replica on the one which has this prob. No luck.
If you solve this problem, please post a fix!

Create a replica from the schema.nsf from your Administration server onto the spoke server.
