Unread Marks in Client

I have recently set up and configured a new 8.5 environment for a new company that we recently purchased. The issue we have is that unread marks are being shown in Bold black text rather than Plain red text.

On the server I have a desktop policy which specifies that the unread marks should be plain red and the policy has been applied correctly to the user. Also on the user’s client it does not list the option to change this manually.

Not a major issue but is a tad annoying for some of our users. Any ideas on how to resolve this would be greatly welcomed.

Hi Ram

Thanks for the response however the option appears to be disabled on our 8.51 clients.

Subject: I Believe This Is Your Issue…

Hi Patrick,

I have run into this issue multiple times with users. First, I’m assuming this is only affecting one or a few users.

What I have seen cause this is when users go to Tools → Preferences… in their Mail File. From there, they go to Message Marking → Senders and accidentally add a Space in the field “Sender Names” (see Screen Shots below).

The tell-tale for this is that users are complaining of Unread Messages being Black - which is the default “View Color” for Message Marking. I recommend checking each of the “Sender Names” Field for a space and deleting any found.

Other than that, I have found that Calendar Profile Corruption has caused it too. If the above steps don’t work, let me know and I can provide you the code to Delete the user’s Calendar Profile.

Lastly, after I started writing this, I checked to see if there was any IBM Documentation on it and found 1 Technote on it, which oddly enough outlines exactly what I mentioned above - it can be a common issue when working with users enough and there’s only so many things you can try :).

I hope you find this helpful Patrick. Please let me know if there’s anything I can do to help further - I tend to check back in the Forums often.

Hi Bob

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my query, greatly appreciated.

I don’t believe this is the same issue as described in your post. I have replicated this with new accounts and new installs with the same result each time.

I have also created a new policy and new desktop settings. Each time they result in the same.

I’ll try the calendar profile fix anyway and see if this helps.
