Unread docs showing as READ in cluster DB's

I have a client whose mail is showing up as READ. When we turn off replication in the cluster for this file the email then is received correctly–showing up as UNREAD. We’ve checked all the advanced settings and they match–no check in the ‘Don’t maintain unread marks’ and "Replicate unread marks as “clustered servers only”. I’m looking for any suggestions as to what to look at next. Thanks in advance for any help.
