Unknown viewer failure

Running Lotus Notes client Revision 20081211.1925 (Release 8.5) on Vista 64-bit laptop.

I can open attachments (type .xls, .ppt and .doc) with their appropriate Office components, but when trying to view them I got always popup with “Unknown viewer failure”.

I have Microsoft Office 2007 installed as well as Excel, Powerpoint and Word viewers for 2007 Office.

Any suggestions?

Subject: Unknown viewer failure

The “Unknown viewer failure” error occurs only due to the failure of creating viewer window in Notes. seems it’s nothing to do with Keyview.ini. 1. Does this happen to other files? For example: txt, html etc

  1. If file specific issue, could you help to post the doc here? thus I can try with it on my machine.

It appears that all type of documents (except .pdf) trigger - on my machine - Unknown Viewer Failure.

.PDF documents are opened for View with Acrobat Reader (as expected).

As a test - I created a simple .txt document with 3 lines in it:

I can Open it (Open invokes Notepad); I can Edit it (Edit invokes Notepad as well) but I cannot View it (View triggers “Unknown viewer failure”.

How can I post such document here?

This must be somethink wrong with my installation - but I have no clue what it could be.

Subject: KEYVIEW.INI

What about the client’s KEYVIEW.INI? Deleted, corrupted, read-only? It must be sotred in a directory in which the user is allowed to edit and save the file. There is a NOTES.INI parameter with which you can control where the KEYVIEW.IINI is located if your’s is not in the standard directory (client’s data directory).
