Undertanding "compacting" with Lotus notes

Hi,

I’m a “newbie” with Lotus Notes,

Could someone explain to me how does the “compacting” option of the DB working ?

Is this some kind of compression / removing multiple datas or something else?

No, it on “remove” unused space.

When you delete documents, the db file size remains the same.

The compact action will release the unused space, so the file size becomes lesser.

Habitually, the compact method will need some free space on the server disk (amount : db file size), so

I think it means that it creates a temporary DB for it.
