I hope that someone might be able to assist with this (what should be a) simple issue…
We have two different Notes domains - ABC & XYZ - with Domino servers in each. The two domains reside within the same internet domain (abc.com.au).
Server1/ABC can route mail easily to Server1/XYZ.
We then added Server2/ABC, and clustered it with Server1/ABC. Everything went fine with the establishment of the cluster, and communications between all servers (replication) in both domains seemed to be going well also.
The configuration documents for Server1 and Server2 are practically identical.
In order to balance the load on the 2 servers in the ABC domain, we decided to migrate some mailboxes across from Server1 to Server2. Before doing so, however, we did some tests to ensure mail would route properly (thank heavens we did!).
Todate, we simply cannot get mail to route outside of the local domain from Server2/ABC!
For instance, if I send a message to “test person@XYZ” (does NOT exist in the XYZ Domino Directory), the message never leaves the ABC domain. Instead, I receive a message back indicating that “User test person (test person@abc.com.au) not listed in Domino Directory”.
I have placed a Person document which represents a valid user in the XYZ domain in the ABC Directory, and pointed all their mail to Server1/XYZ (trying to negate Directory Catalogue and Directory Assistance as the culprits). If I send a message to that valid user, the message still doesn’t leave the local domain. Instead, I receive a message back indicating that “Maximum forwarding loop count exceeded. Message probably in a forwarding loop. Examine Forwarding Address of intended recipient in Domino Directory.”.
Reviewing the Domino log, the server logs the following errors before sending me back the preceding message:
Router: Message 0012F3B6 forwarded to Terry Boyd/XYZ@XYZ
Router: Message 0012F4D1, 0012F3B6 forwarded to Terry Boyd/XYZ@XYZ
Router: Message 0012F4D1, 0012F3B6 forwarded to Terry Boyd/XYZ@XYZ
Router: Message 0012F4D1, 0012F3B6 forwarded to Terry Boyd/XYZ@XYZ
Router: Message 0012F4D1, 0012F3B6 forwarded to Terry Boyd/XYZ@XYZ
Router: Unable to deliver message 0012F4D1, 0012F3B6 to Terry Boyd/XYZ@XYZ
We have re-created the necessary Connection documents, reviewed almost every setting in the Configuration documents, and run fixup/updall on the Domino Directory, all to no avail…
Mail continues to route from Server2/ABC to other domains quite happily.
Please, if you have any suggestions, we would be most grateful!
