Unable to Locate File - Opening Notes

Hi

We are in the process of moving our Notes 6.5.1 server onto new hardware the current server is running Windows 2000 and the new server is running Windows 2003. When we move the server over and load it up it all starts correctly. However when the users try to open notes they get an error stating that is unable to locate File. All the user data has been moved over and is located in the same directories. We have all the user data located on the server and use enviroment variables to specify the location of the files and this is all exactly the same. The only difference I can see is that on the Windows 2000 server the ffolders are not read only where as they are on the Windows 2003 server. I’ve tried removing the read only attributes using the various options suggested by Microsoft but they don’t appear to work.

Has anyone else encountered this or does anyone have any suggestions.

Thanks

Ang

Does the new server have a different IP address? If so did you change the name/IP address resolution (DNS)?

When exactly do you get the error? Before Notes has successfully loaded, or when you’re trying to access the mail file or another application?

Can you hit the server at all from the machine? Ping it? Open server with IP address in the notes client?

Some places to start…let us know how you get on.

Another point to check: Has anybody by chance enabled the Windows firewall on that server?

The folders being read-only sounds strange to me too, but I don’t have any Domino server running on Windows 2003, so I don’t know for sure if this is a problem or not.

OK Things to check… most likely cause

The Bookmark on the desktop should point to the .exe and .ini for the notes clinet

like this

“C:\Program Files\lotus\notes\notes.exe” =C:\program files\lotus\notes\data\notes.ini

yours may be like this.

“C:\Program Files\lotus\notes\notes.exe” =u:\notes\data\notes.ini

check here first and make sure the user can view the files.

READ ONLY - Notes has to interact with all the DB’s etc in the Data directory. This is likely to cause issues. Change the persmissions to allow the user to have fulle access.

I hope this helps
