Unable to complete Name Move Request

I have noticed that Name Move Requests are not completed.

When I use the admin client to generate the name move, whether it be from one OU to another OU, or actually changing the name of the user, the person document is updated so that the new name is listed first in the User Name field.

The new short name (if applicable) is also listed first in the short name field.

The old name is listed last in the User Name field, and the old short name (if applicable) is listed last in the short name field.

Usually, we set this so that the both names are honored for 21 days. But then nothing else happens.

I realized that the process was not being completed because we needed to go into the Name Move Requests View of admin4.nsf.

When I go to that view I can see several documents…all of them say “no error” in the status.

If I select one of them and click on the “Complete Move for selected entries” action button, if I receive the dialogue box as expected and enter in the OU certifier password of the new OU certifier.

I then receive the dialogue box where you can set the expiration date of the certificate and choose to inspect each element. When I click OK I receive the following error message.

“the note does not contain a name”

I then look in certlog.nsf and don’t find any errors.

Does anybody have any idea why this is occuring? My servers are 6.5.6FP3 and the design of admin4.nsf “should” be R6.5.x

ACL of admin4.nsf has default author, */ourorg author, Administration server is manager, or localdomainadmins manager, localdomainservers manager.

I’m having the same problem, and can’t find a solution.

I can’t complete the rename process (using the same process David listed, and getting the same error). Guess I’ll post if I find a solution.

I think I’ve found the solution (or problem, as it were).

When you go to the Name Move Requests view in the Administration Requests database, if you:

  1. click on the user, and

  2. select “Complete move for selected users”,

the process proceeds.

I, and I suspect David, was clicking on the “No error…” child document that appears below the username - so the action button was responding by saying that’s not a note I can act on.

Why were we clicking on the child document? Because that view doesn’t update once the process has completed, so you’re rather tricked into thinking it still needs to be done.

I haven’t found documentation about when those renamed users will be removed from the view, but I’m assuming they must once the entire process has completed.
