Unable install ND8.0.2 on Vista Home version?

When installing or upgrading Notes 8.0.1 or higher on a Windows Vista client, the UAC security setting should be enabled (UAC ON).

I are installing ND8.0.2 on Vista Home version, install using Run as admin. However when the installation almost finished, it automatically roll back. I do change the default install folder of both program and data.

I’ve tried 8.0.1, same result. checking the event viewer, found error as below:

Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Lotus Notes 8.0.1. Product Version: 8.01.8044. Product Language: 1033. Installation success or error status: 1603…

Any ideas?

Subject: Re: Vista Upgrade/Installation of 8.0.2

Hi Hansen,

I think one problem may be that 8.0.2 is not technically supported on Vista Home:

However, you could try disabling Vista’s UAC, as I have seen success in doing so. Another thing to try is to ensure that you are installing Notes out of the Program Files directory. For example, install to C:\IBM\Lotus\Notes instead.

To disable UAC, you can do any of the following:

Turn User Account Control (UAC) off

  • Launch MSCONFIG from the Run menu; note that the Run menu is not visible by default for Windows Vista.
  • Click on the ‘Tools’ tab. Scroll down and click “Disable UAC”.
  • Press the “Launch” button.
  • A command window will open. When the command is finished running, you can close the window.
  • Close MSCONFIG; reboot the computer for changes to apply.

Note: You can re-enable UAC by selecting the “Enable UAC” line from the ‘Tools’ tab, and then clicking on the “Launch” button.

Alternately, you can turn off User Account Control (UAC) by doing the following:

  • Open the Control Panel and choose ‘User Accounts’
  • Select “Turn User Account Control on or off”
  • Un-check the box next to “Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer”
  • Press OK and restart the computer.

Note: You can re-enable UAC by checking the box next to “Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer”.

If you want to completely Uninstall Notes from your Vista PC so that you may reinstall to a different path and with UAC disabled, follow the Technote below:

Technote 1269041 regarding UAC Feature support explains the reason for this best:

New Installation Procedure for 8.0.1:

Starting in Lotus Notes version 8.0.1, the UAC feature is supported. However, due to the limitations imposed by the UAC feature, it is strongly recommended to install a multi-user install of Lotus Notes. The multi-user install will place the user’s directory in the C:\Users<username>\AppData\Local\Notes\Data.

With this configuration, the client will successfully install and run with the UAC feature enabled.

If Domino Administrator and Designer are required on the workstation, the Single User install can be used with a few modifications. For single user installs, the install location should be changed as follows:

Program Directory:

C:\IBM\Lotus\Notes

Data Directory:

C:\IBM\Lotus\Notes\Data

Windows Vista locks down the C:\Program Files directory. If the installation of Lotus Notes’ Program and Data directories are installed in the Program Directory, which is the default directory, then it will be read-only for standard users (NOTE: All users run as Standard Users in Windows Vista, this includes the Administrators group). This limitation will prevent the client from running properly.

By installing Multi-user install, or a Single User Install (with the Program and Data directory in a drive off of C:, and not off of C:\Program Files), then the user will be have full read/write access to the directories and their contents.

Subject: Unfortunately still failed

Turn off UAC, run as admin, install on non-default folder, still rolled back.

Anybody has success installed 8.0.x on Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 (32-bit)?

Subject: worked for me

I can’t help though, as it just worked for me, installing 8.0.2 on Vista Home Premium (assume it’s SP1)

Subject: How did you do?

Is UAC ON or Off? default folder or non-default folder? run as admin or not?

Subject: I’ll take a look

It’s my home laptop and I’ve never used vista before so not sure what you mean by UAC to be honest.

I logged into vista as the admin user as it’s the only user (this is home, not work…), and just ran the install files. Installed in c:\lotus\notes not the default

Subject: it’s so weird

I’ve followed the instructions by Lotus. Tried UAC ON or OFF, default or non-default folder, run as admin or standard. It has started installation, however almost at the end it automatically rolled back without any error messages pop-up.

Subject: Is this the Basic 8.02 or Standard 8.02?

Subject: standard

Subject: Problem has been fixed.

The reason was that I’ve changed the user temp folder to D:\Temp that installation requests to be C:\Temp by default.

I remember that was the issue I was installing Sametime, and other Lotus products. Guess Lotus may need enhance SPR.
