From time to time, our users received virus alerts from their recipients. Actually, they did not send any emails to them. Some of recipients are known but some are unknown. Our antivirus program works effectively to catch known virus. Obviously, someone sent emails on our behalf. If they continue, our domain will become blacklisted and/or blocked by the recipients or isps. I appreciate any advice to stop it.
Thanks,
Ray

You cannot do anything about it. But I wouldn’t fear blacklisting to much, because everybody has this problem. If they want to blacklist you for that, they’ll have to blacklist half of their correpondees!

as Joris says, you wont get blacklisted for that as most viruses spoof the sender address.
You are only likely to get blacklisted if your server is being used as a relay (i.e. spam is coming through it).

It sounds logical and thanks for your advice. Should we just ignore it since now our email server is working very hard to reject/handle such spam emails in thousands quantity a day. It slows down our email server. Is there any solution available? It seems it is worse than virus since virus can be caught quite successful with existing antiviurs program.

Hi Ray
As you are on Release 6 you could try setting up some server based mail rules, that reject messages that meet criteria. For example, any mail with a subject containing “virus” could be deleted by the router. If this is making your server work too hard, it may be worth having another server dedicated to sending and receiving SMTP mail.
If you are getting lots of spam, you need to look in to a 3rd party solution for your server or from your ISP.
Hope that helps
