Typing in Source tab - chars appear very ssslllooowwwwlllllyyyy

  • I do all my work in the Source tab, and when I’m typing a new xp:tag there, the characters appear on the screen literally around one per second. For instance, just now I was typing xp:this.onPageLoad. That’s 20 characters. It takes thirteen seconds for those 20 characters to appear on the screen. Thirteen seconds! It’s like watching echo mode on a Bell 110 acoustic modem.

  • It only happens on tags. Tag contents, like and text, appear instantly as one would expect everything to. Essentially any time < is typed, everything after it appears slower than molasses in January, unless ! is the second character. It doesn’t matter if it’s an xp:.... or a plain HTML tag, characters appear so pathetically slow it’s impossible to type. Maybe no one at Lotus does typos, but I do, and this makes DDE a nightmare. Darn, there’s that word again.

  • “I had a horrible DDE last night. Scared me witless.”

Subject: This also happens with 8.5.1…

This is all I have on an Xpage:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<xp:view xmlns:xp=“http://www.ibm.com/xsp/core” xmlns:xc=“http://www.ibm.com/xsp/custom”>

<xc:pgTemplate page="Test" skipCrumbs>

	<xp:this.facets>

		<xc:page_Test xp:key="content" />

	</xp:this.facets>

</xc:pgTemplate>

</xp:view>

  • When I typed “skipCrumbs” that appears on the pgTemplate custom control, it took nineteen seconds for those piddly 10 characters to appear. That’s almost two seconds per character. It and consumes 100% of the CPU time while it’s at it. What???

  • Maybe this a small issue, and compared to destroying all Java build capability it certainly is. But it’s not a small issue when one is sitting here waiting for this sluggish nightmare to do something as trivially simple as paint text on the freaking screen.

  • Come on Lotus, at least get the most basic, most trivially rudimentary functionality right.

  • I suspect this is that pathetic automagic completion bollixing everything. If I could at least disable that uselessly annoying load of bull, and the incessantly frustrating tool tips, a good part of the problems with Nightmare On DDE Street would be resolved. But I can’t. Here comes Freddie…
