Hi,
We recently upgraded our server and notes clients from Notes/Domino 4.6.7 to 6.0!!!
Since then, we having problems with the type-ahead feature on the clients, when sending a new memo the type-ahead feature will only look in the default names.nsf and ignore all other entries in the other address books. Even pressing F9 will not work, but if you go to the “to” field all address books are listed and available to browse.
We are using 4 address books on the server that users will email from; all four are listed in the notes.ini (on the server only):
Names=names.nsf, names2.nsf, …
I found different syntaxes for this command; with/without extension, and with/without space after the comma. None seem to make a difference. But when you go to Notes admin, they are all listed in the configuration.
After some research, we decided to configure Directory Assistance. But I am confused if this is suppose to work since all address books are local to the same server (secondary local address book) and not on a remote server.
I understand that this is the recommended way of doing this, but the old syntax should be still supported.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! (All the users are asking for this constantly).
Thanks!
Subject: Type-Ahead problems!!!
In the client’s location doc, mail tab, is the recipient name type-ahead enabled to look at the server?
On the server side:
-
Make sure you already have a Configuration Settings document for the server(s) to be configured.
-
From the Domino Administrator, click the Configuration tab and expand the Messaging section.
-
Click Configurations.
-
Select the Configuration Settings document for the mail server or servers to administer, and click Edit Configuration.
-
On the Basics tab, complete this field, and then click Save & Close:
Field Type-ahead
Choose one:
Enabled - (default) The server checks the Domino Directory for an address that matches what a user enters in the To, cc, or bcc field of a message.
Disabled - The server does not try to match addresses. Matches occur only in the user's Personal Address Book or local Directory Catalog.
hope this helps…
Chris
Subject: RE: Type-Ahead problems!!!
Thanks for the response Chris,
But we already have that enabled on the server and client side. The function works for the default address book. But not the additional three address books that the clients are using.
If you have anyother ideas, please let me know

Subject: You pretty much have to use DA
While using the NAMES= line in the ini still works somewhat it is pretty highly discouraged by support. Look in admin help for instructions around Directory Assistance. My one suggestion is to create the doclinks that go in the DA documents from local copies of the directories which are on your workstation since this will prevent them from having a “hint” in them and will make sure that they always look local first for the databases.
Good Luck,
Rob
