Turn off OOO for group address?

This question has been raised by one of our clients…If someone emails into our help desk, which is using a group address, for example, helpdesk@somedomain.com, and someone in that group has OOO enabled, is there anyway to prevent the OOO agent from sending the message back to the emailer? In other words is there a way to say if emails are addressed to helpdesk@somedomain.com, ignore the OOO for any of the members of that group that may be out of the office?

Thanks in advance!

Subject: Exceptions tab has changed

In mail7 there was a setting in the mailfile’s out of office profile, in the exceptions tab, which said “Do not reply to mail which is addressed to these groups”. That setting had to be enabled per user (I don’t think there is a mail policy for out of office settings).

In mail85, the setting doesn’t seem to be there. Shame. I wonder why this isn’t available anymore.

Subject: no, it’s still there

the tab is called Exclusions now. I just checked our templates, we have 8.0.2 and 8.5.1, and both have this feature still.

Subject: I see the exclusions tab…

In the 8.5.2 template, but no group option that was mentioned.

Subject: now I underdstand

I misunderstood what you were trying to do. I don’t think the OOTO would ever have allow you to do that. Your best bet is to have a central mail-in database for your helpdesk people and have them access the mail there rather than all receiving a copy.

Subject: are you sure?

re. “I don’t think the OOTO would ever have allow you to do that.”

I can confirm that it is available with a Notes 6.5 mail template. I.e, you can secify group names on the Exclusions tab of the OOO dialog, and it does work as expected (I am using it).

Subject: how would it know …

that the e-mail was sent to a group? check the requirements in the original post and you will see what I mean. It confused me a bit too at first. Basically, if the recipient is a member of the helpdesk group (group address to which the e-mail was sent) he does not want the OOTO to respond to the original message.

Subject: Thanks…

That’s what we’re going to end up doing, using a mail in db. Thanks for the input, everyone.

Subject: Thanks…

Yeah, that would be a nice feature to have back!
