Traveler, Nokia S60v5 and Access Points

Hi,

We are running Traveler R8.5.1 with a couple of Nokia handsets.

The handsets are based on the S60v5 platform and are either 5800 or N97 units. The 5800’s are running Nokia firmware v21, and the N97 v11. At this time these are the latest firmwares available for these handsets due to branding issues.

One issue that we are having is with the specified ‘Access Point’ (Options → Settings → Account → Access Point).

We are having to advise our test users to manually change this to met the available connection in their current location, else the connection will not work. So for example, if they are at home connected to their local WiFi network that must go back into the ‘Access Point’ setting and change this setting to point at their local SSID - if then then return to the office, they must change it again to match our SSID.

My expectation was/would be that if I use the ‘Easy WLAN’ option from the ‘Access Point’ list then upon connection Traveler either prompt me with a list of available WiFi connections. Whilst it is prompting me, it still fails to make the connection to the WiFi network, and produces a “Error: Connection error with …” message.

However, these are ‘new’ WiFi networks, the phone itself already as all the required details to make the connection (WPA keys etc). If you change the ‘Access Point’ setting to a specific SSID (which could be the same one you selected under ‘Easy WLAN’) then the connection will work fine.

I have opened a PMR regarding this, but just wondering whether anyone else has seen this issues, perhaps resolved it etc.

Thank you

Iain Chapman

At the moment we are purely testing Traveler.

Subject: Traveler, Nokia S60v5 and Access Points, Same problem…

Hi Ian.

I experience exactly the same om Nokia E72 S60V3. Could you please tell about the status of the PMR. I was about to post a PMR myself…

Subject: Traveler, Nokia S60v5 and Access Points

Would be even better if you did not have to point it to a service (eg. cellular network or WiFi) but to the internet Destinations (Menu > Settings and Connectivity > Destinations > Internet) were you can have multible access points (WiFi, Cellular) set-up & it would pick the highest Priority available. That way the users would not have to keep changing the settings.(using N97 Mini, not sure if it has the same setting as the N97)

Subject: I had the exact same issue

I had what sounds like a very similar issue.

N97 (and N96) would not synchronise.

It was solved by …

Changing the access point from “EASY WLAN” to a named connection in :

Menu

Applications

Lotus Traveler

  • Options

  • Settings

    1. Account
  • “Access point” is the one at the bottom
