I want to try something but want people’s opinions before I do so, so that I don’t cause any problems. Here’s the scenario…
I have Lotus Notes Traveler installed and working on my Windows Mobile 6.1 device. I only initially configured it to work with email and calendar and it does that great.
I have never synched my PDA with any other software (Outlook or anything like that) and have just kept manually adding Contacts to the Address Book on the device. I thought it would be a good idea to start synching them with my Notes NAB. Here’s the deal though…I don’t currently use my Personal Notes NAB. I think its only got 3 records in it. I do however have hundreds in the Contacts database on my PDA.
Looking at the configuration settings and documentation for Traveler, I can’t see anything which says which source takes priority (Notes or what’s on the PDA) so I don’t know what will happen if I set up synchronisation between the PDA and my Notes NAB. My worry is that the software will replace all my hundreds of contacts on the PDA with the 3 records I have in my Notes NAB…
Is this right? Will it? Can someone tell me what they think will happen if I just do this?
Essentially I’m trying to populate my Notes NAB with all the contacts from my PDA.
Hope someone can help.
BTW, I use Notes 8.0.2
Subject: Traveler and contacts
When you enable contact sync, it will ask you what you want to do on the device, use server copy, device copy or merge the two together. As long as you do not choose to use the Server copy you will be fine.
I definately recommend you do sync contacts since you have so many on the device. This allows you to switch phones in the future without having to type them in all over. With the rapid change in phone technology it is quite common to upgrade about every 2 years.
Also I would review this topic on enabling your Notes Address Book for replication.

It took me a long time to get back to trying this, so sorry for the delay in responding.
It did not work!
I enabled replication of my local NAB with the server and then selected the option on my Windows Mobile device to Synch Contacts. (It was just a tick box!). I then did a synch and bingo, all the hundreds of contacts I had on my device disappeared from it and 3 new ones appeared in their place, which were the 3 people I had in my local NAB.
Lucky for me I do a weekly backup using Sprint, so I managed to restore them all.
I have had a bit of a mooch around and can’t find any setting for overwriting the server copy with the data on the mobile device. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where this might be?
Thanks in advance.
