Traveler - Can you disable push mail?

I have tried to disable mail syncronization by editing NTSConfig.xml and through a Traveler policy document, but I still get new mail pushed to the phone.

Domino servers are 8.0.1 and Traveler is 8.0.1.2

Subject: Disable push mail in Traveler

The point of Traveler is to have mail pushed to the device, so I wonder why you want to disable it. In any case, you should be able to disable it in a few ways, but it depends on what you really want to do.Do you want to disable push for all data types (mail, calendar, contacts, etc.) or just mail?

Mail and calendar are linked (to handle invitations properly), so syncing one causes both to sync.

Do you want it disabled for everybody, or just a particular device?

Do you want to disable it on the client or from the server (via policy)?

If you want to use policies, are all user’s mail databases on an 8.0.1 or later Domino server (implication is that they are)?

NTSConfig.xml changes will only apply to user’s who don’t already have a Traveler profile. If they configured the device before that change on the server, it won’t apply to them. You would need to delete their traveler profile on the Traveler server via tell command to remove the old one and start over with the NTSConfig defaults.

The bottom line is that it is possible, it just depends on what you really want to do.

Subject: Disable push mail for security reasons

All user’s mail databases are on the same Domino 8.0.1 server. My customer don’t want to sync mail for security reasons. Calendar, contacts etc. will be syncronized.

This will applly to all users and have to be controlled from the server.

I know you have a common setting for mail and calendar in the client setup, but in both NTSConfig.xml and the policy document mail and calendar have seperate entries. Is it not possible to sync calendar and not mail ?

Is there a way to disable only mail sync ?

Subject: Mail and Calendar must be synced together

For the invitation handling reason I mentioned earlier, Traveler requires mail and calendar to be synchronized together. Thus, there is no way to sync calendar without syncing mail right now. You can mix and match other applications, but mail and calendar are linked completely.

This is the first request/mention of something that does not want mail and wants calendar, so you should send this request (to be able to sync calendar without syncing mail) to your sales person so that it can get some consideration in the future.

Subject: OK. Thanks a lot for your help.
