Traveler 8.5.0.1 Battery Issues

We just upgraded our test servers to Domino & Traveler 8.5 and since then we have been experiencing battery issues on the 2 devices that we are testing with. We are testing with a Palm Treo and the HTC Pro. Both were working fine with Traveler 8.0.1, but since upgrading to 8.5 the phones will not keep a charge. They die after about 5 hours of use after a full charge.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to extend the battery life on the devices.

Thank you.

Subject: Traveler and Battery life

Please upgrade the Traveler Server and devices to the latest recommended maintenance as shown in the technote below. There were some improvements made in connectivity and battery life. Also something to think about is an SMS push option. This requires and SMS plan (prefferably unlimitted) but is much easier on the battery then TCP push.

Corey,

Thank you. I will update the server and clients to see if this fixes the issue.

As to the SMS idea, we don’t currently have unlimited and I do not think we are going to change our service plans.

Thank you again.

Subject: Problem Fixed

Corey,

Thank you again. After applying the update everything is working great. I think the battery even preforms better that the older release.

…SMS push option. This requires and SMS plan (prefferably unlimitted) but is much easier on the battery then TCP push.

It is unclear whether the sms plan should be unlimited in terms of RECEIVING sms because according to this document

SMS messages are received silently by the Lotus Notes Traveler software on the device so this will not interfere with your use of SMS messaging.

The detailed mechanism of sms auto-sync is not described. I would appreciate any additional explanation and/or references.
