Transaction Log Backups

Is anyone running a FULL-Backup of the domino directory one day, then running backups of the domino transaction logs the following day ?

We are currently running full backups every night.

Wondering what percent or how man people are relying on transaction log backups only.

Im looking to switch since full backups take to long every night and cost to much on tapes.

Im currently running transaction logs on seperate disks as circular for start-up recovery time only.

I do know this needs to be changed to ARCHIVE mode.

We have ARCSERVE BACKUP 12.5 with windows open file agents and domino agent.

Subject: Transaction log backup is the way to go

Full backup on weekends take about 18 hours. Incremental (translog backups) on weekdays takes minutes.

Subject: thanks

what throughput do you get on your full backups ? We average about 700MB a minute.Arcserve to AIT-4 media.

I should do incremental backups of the trans logs?

Subject: Backup times and schedules

The backup time depends on the backup system, the backup network, and the Domino system. In one site the Domino servers had 4 SAN arrays and a dedicated backup network. The backup job ran concurrently so all 4 arrays were being backed up at the same time. Obviously that arrangement will backup more data than a more simple scenario.

You will need to setup jobs for full backups of NSF’s, incrmental backups of translogs, full backups of any NSF’s that had their DBIID changed (by running commands like compact -B), and then a job to “inactive” the backed up trans logs
