Subject: Anti-Spam
SpamSentinel from Maysoft is excellent and their support is very good.
Subject: I’ve also had a good experience with SpamSentinel
Works great, and - as Gary said - support is great.
Subject: Working out of the box
We work with Fortigate, a hardware device with antispam and antivirus services, seperated from the server. No bothering with Domino, no upgrades, no user settings, just some company wide parameters. One disadvantage: the antispam filter isn’t selective enough for non-english mail. A supplementary banned word list is necessary.

I spent my first three years as a Lotus Admin spending way too much time trying to improve spam filtering\blocking. The DNS Blacklists do work pretty well combined with some other built in Lotus anti-spam features. You can consult the Lotus Anti Spam guide. But the spammers always find new methods to get around these features. Then you get some false positives that some upper level executive made a big deal about.
We finally switched to Postini. I highly recommend it or a similar service. Basically, it’s outsourcing your spam filtering to an organization that focuses on that and does it well. It works great. It’s easy to implement. After that, you rarely need to do anything besides create new user accounts. The cost is much less than appliances as well.
And I got more positive comments from users about implementing it than from any other project I worked on. It resulted in good PR for our department.

Greg

We adopted Messagelabs after rolling our own for many years. Big win. They have a great LDAP synchronization tool called Schemus that works really well even with multiple directories. I was a skeptic.
Subject: Agree with Greg & Keith…
I’m a huge advocate of not wasting your time and resources fighting spam inside your own environment. Let someone else do it for you. I’m a big Postini fan (though they have had their ups and downs since the Google acquisition) but MessageLabs is good too.
