I’m having a heck of a time installing the TLS fix pack, have tried a zillion different solutions I came across by googling: lotus notes related process still running close incremental
If I just re-download Domino server 9.01, will that have the fix already in it, and try to install that instead?

No. 9.0.1 is the base 9.0.1 code. Then install FP2 for 9.0.1. Then install the hotfix.
From your search argument, I assume that you receive an error message stating that there are processes still running?
Once you end the server, then end the NSD service, and any backup services that might be running. Then try to install the HF. You also could change the server and NSFD service to not start on reboot, and then reboot the machine - sometimes that works.

They really couldn’t make it much more confusing if they tried, could they? There’s a bunch of Terry Pratchett characters who devise IBM’s system of issuing Domino patches, I’m sure :}
Update: I’m making progress. Have realized (thanks to Google) that the fix packs, which the fix pack patches complain about, are on a whole different part of the site. They should be all together, or at least the different site “departments” should have links to one another. I think anyway.

It is confusing - and I’ve been doing this now for 15 years…
The best place to start, I think, is Fix Central. IBM Support: Fix Central http://www-933.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/
The base code (9.0.1, in this case) is downloaded from Passport. The check Fix central for updates - IBM Support: Fix Central http://www-933.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/ - then:
Product Selector - type ‘Domino’ (select IBM Domino from the pulldown)
Installed Version: 9.0.1
Platform: Windows.
Then browse to the fixes, and download 9.0.1FP2
Your version is now 9.0.1.2 - so, start Fix Central over, starting with installed version 9.0.1.2, and you’ll find IF1 for FP2.
See how easy that is?
Seriously - Fixpacks will create a 'Installed version change - in this case from 9.0.1.0 to 9.0.1.2.
Interim Fixes are a quick way to release code that don’t increment the version number, and sometimes don’t even have an installer - just a handful of files.
