Tivoli Storage Manager

I am trying replicate a problem that I know someone is having and they are using Tivoli Storage Manager. This is something I have never used before and thus confusing. I tried installing several of the Tivoli packages and they needed something called maxima or something like that. Now I am just trying to install IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Mail V5.4.2 Data Protection for Lotus Domino, Windows, Multilingual (C1583ML).exe.

This seems to install fine but when running it, it comes up with an error like a configuration file can not be found. It is just one thing after another and I would expect that as long as the Tivoli stuff has been around this would be a little more straight forward.

Supposedly the customer is running Tivoli Storage Manager and it runs hourly I guess doing some kind of backup. Does this sound right? Do I need to install something else?

I just need the most minimum setup that does this hourly backup so if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Larry

Subject: TSM & TDP

You need to install both the TSM Backup Archive Client (the software that backs up Windows) as well as the TDP client. TDP uses API’s provided by the TSM BA client. Also, for Domino 8.5, you may also need a newer version of both clients:

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?&uid=swg21297052

TSM and TDP are also a bit strange (IMO) because the scheduling and control of backups require setup on both the client and server end. Take a look in the TSM/domino folder at the “.smp” files. These are sample command files. In the end, you will customize them and rename them with a .cmd extension. The TSM server then calls for these files when it runs a backup.

TSM works really well once it’s setup, however, getting it to that point can be…challenging. There are certain concepts that aren’t the same if you are used to locally-attached tape storage (ARCserve, etc.). Your best ally will likely be a knowledgeable TSM Administrator…

Good luck.

Subject: Thank you, I will try with newer info.

Hello Eric,

I will give this a shot again tomorrow with your suggestions. Actually I posted this to Domino 8.5 forum but just found out from the person that they are using 7.0.3. Hopefully I can get it going real soon. If not, maybe I will post again. To be sure if others have had issues setting this up that someone would have an SOP with steps. Somewhere out there.

Thank you,

Larry
