Thumbnail tool or script for Domino?

Hi All

I’d like to be able to offer the option to our web application users to create a thumbnail from any gif or jpg image they upload. If the dimentsions/resolution of the thumbnail can be selected by the user then that’s great.

Do you have or know of a freeware tool or LotusScript that can be added to a Domino web appliction to create a thumbnail image from an image that the user loads up?

With thanks for any suggestions

You can access uploaded files by referencing the $FILE field on the document. So you could write some code which made an tag and pointed to that attachment, on that document. For example :

Hope that helps somewhat,

On http://www.openntf.org, there is a project called “Open Notes Picture Database”, which produced thumbnails from pictures. A web upload is not included yet, but maybe you can use the scripts as a basis for what you are looking for.

YHM.

I’m going to create a project on openntf when they send me a registration confirmation and when I get around to it but in the meantime I’ve mailed you a db that does this, it’s not LS it’s Java I’ve never done a LS version - mine uses a thing called JIMI which is an old set of Java libraries that allow image manipulation and works with most versions of Java.

I’m nowhere near so proficient at extending LS with DLLs so have never bothered – I never code in LS at all now unless it’s very much better for some reason.

Let me know if you need any help working out what’s going on.

Jens Bruntt has released an article called “Creating thumbnail images using LotusScript in Notes/Domino R6” on searchdomino.com which might help here. You have to register to get access to the article, but that’s free.http://searchdomino.techtarget.com/tip/1,289483,sid4_gci1103603,00.html?track=NL-47&ad=521511

Took a look, that’s clever, but Java from LotusScript, gah…

One point to note - it only works if you’re running Domino under a GUI - be it X or the Windows one whose name escapes me - GDI is it?

I run my (SuSE SLES 8) servers ‘headless’ i.e. no graphics loaded to save resources and as the Java ultimately has to make a call to whichever graphics engine it’s running under this solution will fail.

For Domino 7, and after copying over the appropriate graphics libraries to the server there is a headless option because it’s available from 1.4.2 but if it’s simple scaling that’s needed I found the JIMI solution to be simpler.

I’ve uploaded an example db to http://www.openntf.org/projects/codebin/codebin.nsf/CodeByDate/90A96A34D110344386257035005FC39D

for those that are interested.
