Is it possible to use @ThisName and @Getfield in a hide when formula.
I have a checkbox field that is named S1, I have the refresh attributes turned on.
I have another checkbox field that is named S1_a…
I want S1_a hidden if S1 = “”…
So I wrote the following hide when formula:
fName := @Word (@ThisName ;“_”;1);
@GetField (fName) = “”
My S1_a field stays hidden even if I select a value for S1…
I changed the hide when to be
S1 = “”
and it worked fine…
I put a prompt in the translation formula, and @Left (@thisName ;“_”;1) resolved to S1…
So basically @getfield (“S1”) = “” is what @getfield (fName) resolved to…
so, I thought it would work…
I want to use the same hide when formula for various fields throughout my form.
Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance for any help you may share with me.

Subject: @ThisValue and @GetField in hide when
@ThisName cannot be used outside a field formula. If so always returns null. So @GetField (this nullvalue) always returns null which makes your field always hidden.
Why to complicate things, you can use directly S1= “” as you did for that field hide when. Similarly you can proceed to other fields too. Use trim too as —> @Trim (S1) = “”

because the field name is going to change…may be s10 and s10_a
s3 and s3_a…
That is why… i wanted to copy the same formula w/out having to modify it…

to the paragraph the fields lives in…
This can be confusing because you can get to the hide-when formula when you’ve selected a field.
For hide-when formulas, you’ll have to edit each in turn.

Thanks… I see that now… so the @thisname doesn’t have a value cause @thisname has to used in a field formula.
Thanks…
