The web navigator retrieval process is not running

I have a remote user who is unable to open email messages with embedded web pages. The error she receives is the subject of this post. We have edited her location document per this post http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/nd6forum.nsf/55c38d716d632d9b8525689b005ba1c0/1fcc58a6e286f4d18525702900749f0f?OpenDocument.

This did not work so I had her create the database manually using the template. This also did not work.

Do anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks

Susan

Perhaps try this. This solve the error: Cannot open the Web Navigator database.- Exit from Lotus Notes

  • Delete the Lotus\Notes\data\perweb.nsf

  • Restart Lotus Notes

  • Edit Current… on the current location

  • In the ‘Internet Browser’ tab, put ‘Notes with Internet Explorer’ in the Internet Browser then save and quit

  • Edit Current… again !

  • In the ‘Internet Browser’ tab, put ‘Internet Explorer’ then save and quit

That is what I tried (this info was in the linked document). I’m going to try a few more things this morning and if they don’t work I’m going to take out a big hammer.

Thanks anyway!

Subject: The web navigator retrieval process is not running - RESOLVED

I slimmed down the notes.ini file to:

[Notes]

KitType={value}

Directory={value}

InstallType={value}

Timezone={value}

where {value} = existing value

Deleted bookmark.nsf, busytime.nsf, log.nsf, names.nsf, perweb.nsf, cache.ndk.

Restarted Notes and changed the Internet Browser value in the location document to Internet Explorer.

Problem solved.

Subject: perweb.nsf perweb50.ntf getdocumentbyurl - problem solved - web retrieval process

We have had various client specific problems with the WRP.

Here is what works for us:

  1. rename your perweb.nsf to perweb-nsf.old

  2. go into your location document (choose File-> Mobile → Edit Current Location) and change your Internet Browser to “Notes” (not “Notes with Internet Explorer”)

  3. go into your “More Bookmarks” in your Lotus Notes client (that is one of the icons on the bottom left side in your LN client) and click on any of the URLs to trigger the local Web retrieval process (perweb.nsf should get recreated automatically). It doesn’t matter if the url that you click on is broken or not.

  4. if this doesn’t work the first time, delete perweb.nsf again and repeat steps 1-3

I have posted this solution because most of the other solutions posted don’t include step 3 or as much detail.

If you still have trouble, replace the perweb50.NTF (the template for perweb.nsf) with an equivalent database from another machine (with the same LN version) and repeat the same procedure.

Subject: The web navigator retrieval process is not running - IBM SOLUTION!!

Check this out. Following the directions solved my problem:

Problem

You receive the following error while running a Notes client:

“The Web Navigator retrieval process is not running.”

This has been observed under various conditions:

When clicking on a URL hotspot.

When pasting information from a web page into a Rich Text field.

When attempting to open certain mail memo’s from the internet.

In some cases, one of the following errors may also occur:

“File does not exist”

“Could not find any Web Navigator template”

“Cannot open the Web Navigator database”

Cause

Solution

This issue was reported to Quality Engineering and was addressed in Notes 6.0.

The “File does not exist” error occurs if the current Location document does not contain an entry for the Web Navigator database setting. This setting is found under the Location document tabs → Advanced → Web Retriever. To avoid the error, edit the Location document and specify a database name. The default setting is PerWeb.NSF. The Notes client creates this entry automatically.

The error “Could not find any Web Navigator template” occurs when the necessary template PerWeb.NTF is not found in the Notes data directory. Either correct the data directory location in the User Preferences or copy the template from another Notes client.

The error “The Web Navigator retrieval process is not running” is relative to the Location document “Internet browser” and “Retrieve/open pages” settings.

If the browser is set to “Notes” or “Notes with Internet Explorer”:

If “Retrieve/open pages” is set to “work off-line,” then reset it to “from Notes workstation” or “from InterNotes server.”

If “Retrieve/open pages” is set or reset to “From InterNotes Server,” be sure the InterNotes server entry on the Servers tab is set correctly.

If the browser is set to “Netscape Navigator” or “Microsoft Internet Explorer”:

Temporarily set the field to “Notes.”

Set “Retrieve/open pages” to “from Notes workstation.”

Set the browser field back to “Netscape Navigator” or “Microsoft Internet Explorer” as desired.
