The Mail-in database Inbox does not automatically refresh in Lotus Notes Standard

Is there any update on this? We have quite a few ‘shared’ (Department) mail databases, and numerous complaints that the inboxes don’t refresh automatically and must be refreshed manually (F9).

Subject: Matthew - can you confirm

that this is a SHARED (or mail-in) database that you now have working? And not your own mail file (which should work by default).

Do you have a local replica of the shared mail file? Or is it still hosted on the server?

Thanks!

Subject: Resolved ? or at least workaround…

It appears that if one creates a local replica of the mail-in database, the inbox will refresh as soon as replication completes.

So, there appears to (finally) be a work-around!

Subject: RE: The Mail-in database Inbox does not automatically refresh in Lotus Notes Standard

Notes 9 client - templates are a mix (pre-Notes 9) but mostly 6.5.5 and 8.5.3.

I can see a number of users complain about this issue in past releases, and in searching I couldn’t find any indication that this issue was ever resolved (including Notes 9 - specifically see the Technote referenced above) -

Can you confirm that it was fixed in Notes 9 and/or details of the supported templates and/or how to set the refresh frequency?

Thanks!

Subject: I am having the same issue,

Did you ever get an answer on this issue?

Was it reliant on the mail template or client version?

Subject: Same issue for me in Notes 9.0.1SHF211

I have been having this problem for months with Release 9.0.1 SHF211.

I have tried everything to fix it. I’ve reinstalled a number of times and tried following the steps at http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21201260 http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21201260

  • File > Preferences > Mail > Sending and Receiving
  • Deselect “Check for new mail every _ minutes”
  • Close Notes
  • Delete C:\notes\data\Cache.ndk and C:\notes\data\desktop8.ndk
  • Start Notes
  • File > Preferences > Mail > Sending and Receiving
  • Reselect “Check for new mail every _ minutes” and set it to check every 1 minute
  • Restart Notes
It still does not check for new mail automatically. If anyone has any ideas of how to fix this please share.

Some of my co-workers are using the same release and have no issues.

Subject: Found a Solution

I was finally able to fix this!

Somehow (possibly during the initial upgrade from Notes 8 to 9) a setting got messed up.

In addition to having File > Preferences > Mail > Sending and Receiving > Check for new mail every _ minutes checked you need to also make sure the following options are set:

File > Preferences > Replication and Sync

Make sure both Normal-priority schedule and High-priority schedule are selected, a value is filled in for Repeat every (minutes), and all of the Days of the week are selected.

Somehow everything on that options page got deselected for me.

Subject: Confirmed

I’ve confirmed thru the PMR process that this was indeed broken in 8.x and continues to be broken in the V9.x codestream.

SPR # RONL8LQBPT / APAR LO63874. Public Brief Description:* Mail-in Database Inbox does not Refreshes Automatically in standard client.

Workaround is to create a local replica for the mail-in database.

Subject: Could you let me know your Notes client and mail template version?

Hi Mark,

Our tester could not reproduce this problem in latest Notes 9 mail template. Could you let me know the Notes client version and the mail template version for the mailin-db? Thank you very much!
