'The linked document cannot be found in the view' when you try to schedule a meeting

User get’s the error every time she attempts to create a new meeting (or other calendar entry) in her calendar.

I’ve tried:

New Location Document

nfixup ran on names.nsf

ncompact on names.nsf

nupdall on names.nsf

deleted cache.ndk

replace design on user’s mail file

ctrl shift f9 on user’s mail file

checked kb and Notes.net = nothing I haven’t already tried

Any ideas on what to do?

Thanks,

Kevin

Try deleting the user’s bookmarks.nsf database. Something in there gets corrupted and causes this error.

Thanks. What’s the best way to do this? Should I make a copy of the bookmarks.nsf db, then when and if deleting the db solves the problem, copy all the items from the old bookmarks.nsf into the new version?

Just have the user recreate the bookmarks. The old db is corrupt, so its items are of no value, although making a copy is probably a good idea in case this turns out not to solve the problem.

You’ll have to close down the user’s Notes client completely, then delete the db from the “Data” directory via Windows Explorer. When the user signs back on, Notes will create a new bookmarks db, and the user can open each database and create a bookmark for it. It’s a major inconvenience. About all you can do to simplify it is take a screen shot of the bookmarks list before deletion so you know what to replace.

Thanks, that did do the trick.

You can resolve this problem without deleting users bookmark database. Open the hidden view (ByURL) and there you search on the databasename where you encountered the problem. One of the entries shown should be the link to an unexisting document. Delete this entry and your problem will be solved.

I am not sure what you mean by “Open the hidden view (ByURL) and there you search on the databasename where you encountered the problem.” Where do I access this hidden view from?

I have one user experiencing this problem when attempting to schedule a meeting. I can get the problem to go away for a little while by deleting the bookmark.nsf file but it always comes back. I’d like to permanently resolve this issue.

No need to go make the Designer changes, just press and hold CTRL - SHIFT while right-clicking on the icon for bookmark.nsf on your workspace and choosing Database - Go To.

Then you can see all hidden views without the need for design changes

PS, I did delete all entries in the (ByURL) view and now I can use my calendar again … at least for now.

Just in case this helps anyone else, I had a similiar problem but with creating new memos - always getting linked document cannot be found.

The user was using the ‘Workplace’ welcome page, I reverted this to ‘Basics’ and all working nicely now…

Although it’s probably not the subscribed to method, without guidance I decided to nose around and figured out a way to get at the ByURL view. In the end it did alleviate my inability to create new calendar entries. (Thanks to those efforts higher in the thread). Here’s what I did:

In the deisner client, open the bookmark.nsf.

Looking at the views, change the view ‘(ByURL)’ to be visible. This is done by opening the view for editing and removing the parenthesis from the name in the properties pane, so it just reads ‘ByURL’.

Next open the properties for the bookmark.nsf databse. On the launch tab (rocket icon), change the value in the ‘Name’ field to ‘(BMPage)’, which should be near the bottom of the list.

Then from the notes client, do a file-database-open of the bookmark.nsf. This should bring up a new view (not the normal welcome page). ‘ByURL’ should be one of the views available in the list.

The information in the view didn’t seem very informative, so I looked at field value ‘$SourceDbPath’ in the doc properties as I scrolled through. In the end I didn’t find a record with my mail file in it, so I just deleted them all. I haven’t had any problems thus far but I don’t know all the implications of this (Working with my own bookmark file I could afford the risk – not always the case though). I’ll try to repost if I find any issues with this, otherwise I suggest making a copy of the bookmark.nsf to test it out on first.

Best of luck.

Deleting and recreating the bookmark.nsf resolved this issue for me also. Thanks
