"The application Notes has unexpectedly quit" - looks like memory problem

I have been having the same problem as other users on my powerbook 17" with 10.2.6.

I used R6 fine for about a month without any hassles, then just get the message… “The application Notes has unexpectedly quit…etc”

Found the notes crash file, and it seems to be accessing memory at address 0x00001 which seems to be non executable or bad for programs hence the crash…

It runs fine when you run it as a classic app, but as osx… crash… ive done pretty much everything…

-reinstalled over old copy

-installed a clean install in new place

-removed preferences file

-tried beta 6.5

I did manage to get the setup going in beta 6.5, but when it loaded, it gave a lot of font errors, followed by start page errors, then that crashed with another errror

Another colleague at work is running on 15" powerbook 800mhz with 10.2.6 without any problems…

I will post the crash log from work tomorrow, maybe the notes developers will know what is accessing the weird part of memory, causing the crash.

Subject: “The application Notes has unexpectedly quit” - looks like memory problem.

Got the crash logs. Posting the last 3 crashes…

Any ideas Lotus guys?

don’t know what to make of this dump, but I’ve also have had similar memory problems of OS X (not only with Notes).

but when I took 256k Mb memory stick from my PC I haven’t got problems since (I have 10.1.5) My guess was that it’s OS X who is not efficient with virtual memory, so give it more physical.

You say that with beta 6.5 you got a lot of font errors. Have you looked at your font folders (~User/Library/Fonts , /Library/Fonts, etc). to see how many fonts you have installed?

Try to take some out if you have a lot. Carbon or Mach-O applications like Microsoft Word X have problems with too many fonts. That could be the case with your Notes problem. If you have just a few, try to move them out. Maybe there’s one that’s corrupted.

Also, try to run Disk Utilty to repair your permissions.

I have same kind of problem in one of our mac system. It starts ok at first then after openeing mail database and opening couple of mails and sending some it crashes and then keep on crashing until we uninstall it and reinstall fresh copy. It only runs for aprox. one hour. Also If I install this notes 6.5 in users home directory it runs under OS X env. but I put it in Application folder it runs in Classic 9 version. It wont crash in 9 version though but it wont open any mail and keep giving error “Cannot create File” and also it cannot print since Printer is in OS X and no printer is defined in 9.

Please help I am putting the dump also.
