Textarea on web form

hi alli am having one computed text field on the web form. And having textarea created by html coding. I am showing textarea in edit mode to enter the value by user. And by assigning that value to computed text field on save button. I am showing computed text field value at read mode.

On onload event of form i am assigning computed text field to textarea, so that user can change it if he wish.

Problem is, when i open existing document, it shows the value in the textarea, but with error that document.forms[0].textarea.value is null or not an object.

am i in right way assigning the value or i have to use different mechanism to place text box with multiple rows on the web form ?

pls tell me any solution?

The problem is that your JavaScript is trying to assign the value of the computed field to the textarea, but there is no textarea since you are in read mode.

The solution to this would be to remove the Javascript from onload, and instead place a computed text as the value of the textarea html tag that is displayed when the document is in edit mode.

You could also check if the document is in read mode or edit mode when you execute the onload JavaScript, to make sure it only does it’s thing when you are in edit mode.

Can try to create a hidden text field with same name as of TextArea(HTML).
