Testing Traveler 8.5.1 - observations/questions

A few questions -

  1. When activating an existing mail user on their iPhone, how many days of previous mail/calendar items are placed on their device? I observed it to be approximately 5 days. Can this be increased?

  2. Although the documentation states that iPhones with OS 3.0 and above will allow the user to retain existing contacts, setting up traveler on a 3G model with OS 3.1 caused my existing iPhone contacts to be replaced with my iNotes contacts.

  3. In testing Remote wipe, the wipe (Hard device reset) worked just great. This remote wipe appears to have ‘bricked’ the device however. All I get is the white apple logo when attempting to restart the device - it stays on for about 15 seconds, then the device turns off. Attempting to sync it with my iTunes had no effect.

Any thoughts?

  1. This defaults to 3 days and can be adjusted on the iPhone under settings

  2. I didn’t see this problem in my testing

  3. This also happened in my test. I had to put the iPhone in DFU mode to recover.

Subject: I-phone - remote wipe

The remote wipe will likely take several hours to complete as the Device wipes its storage and rebuilds from factory settings. WM devices are much faster - primarily cause they have small storage space compared to I-Phone. I think patience will be the factor here. Let us know however if the device does not come back as we would certainly need to investigate that further.

Subject: Days displayed

Looks like by default on the ones I’ve installed so far it is 3 days. You can change this by going into the iPhone general settings, select Mail, Calendar… Select the traveler account and choose Mail Days to Synch

Subject: I-Phone contacts

The contacts should still be there but will be under a separate designation: Check under the Contacts app → “on my iphone” and see if the originals are still there.
