Although I have found numerous articles and topics about syncronizing a PDA with Notes client on a desktop I can not find any info on the following:
In the next days we will switch from Outlook clients on Exchange to Domino via Domino Web Access. How should we syncronize PDA’s after that switch? As we will be using Web Access no data will be on the workstation, but the PDA is still phyiscally connected to the workstation. Can we syncronize directly to the Domino server, via the network connection of the workstation? Does it make any difference for our laptop users who will have a syncronized copy on their machine?
Thanks for any input which can help us to better prepare for the switch.

With apologies for the delayed response …
The other response you got summed it up about right - with Domino Web Access the contacts are stored in the mailfile, not in a local address book.
So, when you sync, you need to access your mailfile for mail, calendar AND addresses.
Most sync products make that fairly easy, and you can even install the sync software on a server, meaning there doesn’t have to be much of anything on the local machine.

Renaat, You will need to research a third party solution to your issues. Te contact’s in Oultook are handled differently then they are in Domino. In Domino, contact information is stored in a separate database from your mail. It is stored in a personal address book. Typically PDAs that sync with Lotus Notes synchronize their contact information with the personal address book. With the release of Domino Web Access, IBM realized they now need to store contact information in the mail database of an individual. So they started storing this information in the mail database and created an agent that would synchronize this contact information with the Lotus Notes client’s local address book. This synchronization requires a contact. Allowing your PDAs access to the Domino Data on your server via network share will not work.
Research third party tools that act as a proxy between your PDA and Domino Web Access. You will want to narrow your research to PDA synching software that is specifically for synching with Domino Web Access. Simply finding software that is compatible with Lotus Notes will not be sufficient because most PDA software will ony synch with local address books and require a Lotus Notes client installed on the desktop to complete the synchronization process.
Sorry I couldn’t give you a solution to your problem.
